Withering England: Jonathan Coe and John Lanchester
Two of the most astute observers of our national condition have recently published new books. In Middle England Jonathan Coe returns to the Trotter family to write what the Financial Times described as ‘a pertinent, witty study of a nation in crisis’. John Lanchester’s novel The Wall imagines a country in the near future that has been ravaged by The Change and whose entire coast is surrounded by a vast concrete barrier. What is this country, and how much do we know about it?
Jonathan and John will be in conversation with Peter Kemp, chief fiction reviewer on the Sunday Times.
